to blog for money or not?
To blog for money or NOT?
I asked myself this question a whole bunch of times before I returned to blogging. Right now, I’m still stuck in that stage where I don’t want to compromise my site in putting too much commercialism in it as I wanted to preserve the essence of blogging.
I used to blog for blogging’s sake. I wanted to express my thoughts just to have my piece of the pie in creating a statement, no matter how little that would be. Until it came to a point that I didn’t want to blog anymore. However, the interest came back when I learned I could blog to earn.
Right now, I’m really making some moolah out of my personal blog. But I don’t want to bombard it with too many side content that’s it’s already hard to distinguish what the purpose for it is.
That’s why if you have plans on how you want to blog, you need to sort out your sentiments if you really want to earn or not. As for me, I just wanted to be somewhere in the middle. I’d want to monetize my site, however, I still want to be a part of that small group with some entries that are worth reading.
Not that those sites that focus more on earning such as the one here, isn’t worth reading. We all have different perspectives and opinions on how we view blogging.
On my end, I had to blog because I needed the money. Of course, who doesn’t need some right? But again, we all have our own reasons, just don’t let yourself get caught in between. You should know what you want. If you think that you’d be compromised with the way you are writing and putting different ads or paid content on your site, then stop already. You do have a choice anyway.
As what a colleague at work commented when I was still having this inner conflict inside me whether to blog for money or not, he asked me: “What is the sole purpose why you blogged?” I replied “Because I want to earn”. There you have it, enough said.

you get to do what you like and still earn money out of it..sort of a cycle, you give and it gives back. sounds fair
yeah rols. that’s basically my point. I’d rather blog so I can earn rather than not being able to blog at all.

Hi Ed…can you help me out? I just applied to PayPerPost and they rejected my blog because according to their support I don’t have a dated archive.
But I do have one so now I’m thinking do I need to put a dated sitemap as well ? And how do I do that without having to add it to my nav bar? I want to put it on my footer but well.. I don’t know how.
What is the best way to do this? because I’m really keen on starting to write paid reviews on my blog. I’ve been blogging for 3 months and though i have numerous affiliate products and adsense I am not earning anything yet. And I don’t want to have to beg for people to donate just so I can pay for my webhosting.
Pls email me through my contact form at my blog. Thanks!

Hi isis, thanks for dropping by this blog.
About PayPerPost, that’s strange because I didn’t have any problem on my end. I actually forgot how to apply at PPP because it’s been a year plus already. Were you able to try entering your very first blog post on that option for the ‘dated archive’? I don’t see why they would reject your blog when you’ve been blogging. I tried looking at your blog and it says that your first blog post was dated May 25th (http://pinaybackpacker.com/2009/05/travel-tips-how-to-stay-within-your-travel-budget/) correct me if I’m wrong though. Anyway, the minimum for PPP to accept a blog is 3 months; maybe the blog entries haven’t reached the requirement yet.
I’m not sure about the sitemap though because I do have some friends who removed the dates but are still accepted by PPP. It’s good that you’ve been blogging to earn. I’ve been blogging since 2003 but only realized how to earn on 2007. Anyway, I’ve been getting a number of opportunities at SocialSpark though which relies on RealRank compared to Google’s PageRank since my sites all have a ’0′ rating of the latter. I don’t earn as much compared to probloggers out there but I’m happy that I’m able to find some fruits of my labor thru the things I buy and the bills I get paid. You already have a good PR so just make sure you keep it by putting some Quality posts every now and then.
Sorry if I don’t make any sense, I haven’t reread this reply so I don’t know how it will come out when published. hehe. Good luck to us!
