my sites: all 5 of them

Like I said before, I’m posting all of my sites here just for reference and so I have something to blog about. hehe. I have 5 personal blogs in total and I don’t know what’s wrong with me if I have soe sort of multiple-personality disorder or something because all of them are personal blogs. haha. Usually, there’s a slight difference that’s why I post whatever I can in each one. I try to develop my own niche in each but sometimes my ,mind is too scattered that I just write whatever I want to write in each.

Have you found a common denominator? Obviously it has the first initial of my name on every domain. Can’t I be any vainer?

Soloflighted.com

This is my first site. All of the entries in my old blog (ed.blog-city.com) are transferred here and since I started blogging to earn some extra income, I was able to utilize this venue. This is also the blog where I showcase my travels and food trips so it’s also a thing to distinguish on.

Edcel.net

This blog is where I get a bit more personal. The things I don’t write in soloflighted.com are what’s usually written here. I like the domain because it’s me. And this site was created set up by yours truly which makes it more special. Since I wanted to try to understand what FTP, host names, DNS, etc. are, I had to start from scratch so I’d learn the art of seting up my own site in my own host.

Edearns.com

This blog is more of a personal accounting book where I blog about the things that gave me extra income online. This is where I notate the tasks and opportunities and my cash flow when it comes to earning money through the net.

Edstudyante.com

Because of the drive needed to release thoughts pertaining to my life as a student, employee and blogger, I created this site to get those random emotions that keep me busy. This is where I talk about school, office and again, blogging. This is a personal space for professional rants. hehe

Edsnaps.com

edsnaps

Lastly, the site that doesn’t get updated as much. hehe. This site is supposed to be where I put random snapshots since I also love to take pictures and share them with the rest of the bloggin community.

———–

Wonder why I keep these 5 sites? Of course, more sites equals more money but more sites also means more tasks. People might also wonder why I don’t consolidate all my pages into one single domain. The reason is the same one I just stated. I’m just waiting for the right time to fully blast my sites to their full potential. But then, with my busy life outside blogging, I have difficulty finding time. Oh well, I just wanted to share these to you.

Upgraded EdEarns.com to Wordpress Version 2.8

I upgraded Edearns.com to the latest version of Wordpress which is version 2.8.  Nothing much has changed in this platform but I’d like to comment Wordpress for keeping up with the times in providing the best updates for bloggers like me that make it easy to change and modify my site according to my preference. It’s nice because Wordpress makes sure it’s clients are satisfied and won’t be tired or be apprehensive in using their software. I’m comfortable in this platform than any other.

Anyway, this new version of Wordpress didn’t realy give me any major developments. I haven’t noticed anything yet. I’ll try to scout for more information within the pages to see if anything has changed. I just clicked the auto-upgrade plugin that I downloaded directly and prayed that nothing would get messed up. So far, so good.

Upgraded to 2.7.1

I upgraded this site to the latest version of Wordpress.

I skipped to 2.7.1 from 2.6 because I still had issues with the 2.7. Edearns.com still had some issues because of the plugins that I put in the directory and I knew I needed more time to do this. Anyway, it’s nice to have the latest, it means that you’re updated. Just that my entries seem to be not. hehe.

I was supposed to be focused on adding newer posts that are sticky-topics over the weekend. I even filed for leave today but because my labor is needed at work, I have to give my dedication and probably spend the better part of the weekend at the office.

So I guess I won’t be able to update edearns.com as much as I want to. I’ll try to find time though.

importing my entries from blogspot.com to wordpress.org

Ha, was having a hard time trying to import my posts from my blogger account (http://edearns.blogspot.com) to my new domain in wordpress (http://edearns.com). I wonder how many times I scratched my hand for trying so hard and feeling so lame.

In any case, I’m able to import my blogspot posts to this new wordpress blog.

What I did before is keep on changing the folder names using my ftp client (Filezilla). But I always had errors.

And I don’t want to painstakingly copy and paste all my entries from the first to the present one by one cause it’s such a tedious task.

I tried to install, uninstall and reinstall my wordpress versions cause probably there’s a bug in the Wordpress versions somewhere. However, I don’t know what happened that all of them have some issues with the “Magic Button” for Importing. Because when I tried to press it, I just couldn’t import anything, it would just stay stagnant.

When I was able to chance upon a forum for Blogspot users wanting to import their posts to Wordpress, most of those posts didn’t have any clear answer. It would be hard as well cause I don’t know how updated the conversations were.

But I was able to chance upon a post that said you can create a free Wordpress blog and then use that Import Button, and then Export it from your free Wordpress Blog to your domain.

So basically, that’s what I did. I created a free wordpress account, used the import button of wordpress and now the entries are in my free wordpress blog. Afterwards, I exported my free wordpress account entries and saved a file on my computer. Then, I imported the Wordpress.com to my new domain in Wordpress.org.

Blogger/Blogspot –> Wordpress.COM (free account) -> Wordpress.ORG (paid account)

Waaa. I also encountered some problems along the way like having issues with the READ/WRITE access. Apparently you have to grant access by changing the permissions.

I was so upset and I almost wanted to give up. However, I remembered that I had the same problem during the first website that I set up; so I tried to lengthen my patience. After doing the necessary troubleshooting, I’m now able to update all my blog entries! It’s so tiring when you don’t know where to start. At least right now, if ever I’ll create some new sites, I’ll have this as a guide to help me.

update!

I haven’t been able to update this site as much as I wanted to. Probably because I went to Manila the past three weeks and I had to give more time to my full-time job rather than this blogging business. Anyway, I’m back! Though there are a lot of things I need to to so I can update this site.

But good news! I was able to earn $420 dollars in a span of 3 weeks! Yes! I was given a link my a company which required bloggers to have their own domain names and then link the keyword that the advertisers have and publish them.

There were 42 entries at that time with $5 dollars per entry. Again, the main requirement was for you to have a domain and not a free registered blog (e.g. blogspot, wordpress etc.) and since I have 2 personal weblogs, I hurriedly kept posting and posting till I my hands swell.

When I got to the middle of the process, I realized I didn’t have much time. That’s when I also realized that the requirement wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. They even allowed me to backtrack my tasks (or changing the date to a later time). That’s when I realized that I was wasting my time trying to compose as many entries as possible. Because what happened was that I just used my old blog entries and then integrated the keywords directly into those posts! Which wasn’t at all hard to do!

I’m so glad that I got to earn as much as that in how many weeks! But you might wonder where’s the money now? They’re almost all gone cause a lot had been allocated to house expenses and such. Oh well, easy come, easy go. But it was really that easy! hehe.

importance of having a domain

I bought a domain already. But it’s a domain for a personal blog that I’m not publicizing much. The reason why I bought one is because of some certain limitations of having a just a blogger or a Wordpress account.

Here’s what happened. I created a personal blog in Wordpress. I posted some entries until it reached a certain number of posts and I made sure that it would be ready to get accepted by paid post sites. I signed up for some accounts already; some sites approved my blog, some didn’t because it’s not yet ranked. But there was one paid post site that informed me that they wouldn’t accept that Wordpress account because Wordpressdoesn’t allow paid posts in its site. My eyes became wide open at that time, being dumbfounded. And I thought Wordpress was all that. According to the TOS (Terms of Service), they really don’t allow paid posts. So I resulted to just buying my own domain and host, that’s what you get for not reading. sheesh.

Because I didn’t want to move all my entries to another account like blogger/blogspot that allows paid posts (since I also have two other accounts here, edearns.blogspot.com and edsnaps.blogspot.com, I suddenly bought a site already. That was the driving factor for leading me to getting my own domain.

Other factors that are still important are that paid post sites would give priority to those sites that have their own domain. So, even if your free blogger account gets approved, advertisers would still hire you if your blog is worthy. It’s just that they’d give more importance to those who aren’t hosted to a free account.

Also, since I didn’t know how to set up my own site. Because of this, I’m able to understand the concept of FTP servers and PHP permissions and plug-ins. This will add to my credibility since I have encountered the many frustrations of building a site; especially that I’m not a technical person. I just like to learn a lot so I won’t look like a fool when people ask me questions on how I did what and where.

In the mean time, just to clarify things, you can still use a free blogger account (I guess blogspot would still be the best choice). As for me, I have to deal with some paid post sites that I’ve already created tasks for. I hope it wouldn’t be back to the drawing board.created tasks for and see how to manage this predicament.

At least the hosting isn’t that expensive, actually it’s quite cheap for me. I don’t even know how to compare it with other hosting services out there. But I got this data from a colleague at work who’s credibility I don’t have any question about. So I tried this host out for myself. If ever you’re interested, you can click the banner below which serves as my referral bonus if some of you might want to purchase an account. I bought the host for a dollar a month, their most affordable package.

Creating a Blog

Of course, before you can earn some money online thru blogging, you need to have a blog in the first place, which totally makes sense. hehe. I tried looking for some online college courses to gain more information about it but it seemed that you just need to be resourceful in finding the perfect platform for you.

I definitely recommend that you try to set up you blog here in Blogger/Blogspot more than anywhere else. Just to let you know, I used to have a blog in Blog-city, but when it folded up, I wanted to try a place where it’s still simple. I tried using Wordpress, and yes it is simple. However because of Wordpress’ simplicity, it also came with limited features. You can’t customize it as much as what you can do with Blogger when it comes to themes and layouts, making money, Google adsense (since it’s powered by Google), paid posts and mostly everything!

Honestly, I’m not really trying to sell Blogger, it’s just that as of the moment, no one can beat this blog host; which explains why the lack of available user IDs to choose because it’s already congested.

Anyway, you can simply apply online for blogger, that is you need to have a Gmail account. If you don’t have one, then you can let somebody who has one invite you to create one. Every Gmail user has about 50 invitations he/she can send out to anyone. If you wish to have one, just PING me and I’ll invite you.

After you have created a blog, then of course you need to maintain it. You need to update it regularly, it doesn’t have to be everyday though it’s good if you do. The reason why this is so is for you to establish your blog from different search engines to have a mark on the world wide web. Your blog can be whatever you’d like to put in; sports, music, hobbies, personal, etc., there are endless topics to choose from. If you don’t have any specific topic to blog about, then you can just blog about anything! Again, the technique is to leave a mark in the web space.
