the importance of a network

I’ve never really thought about the importance of a network when it comes to blogging. There are a number of sites out there that deal with creating your own online community where you can share your blogs with. Doing so actually increases your scope since more and more people get to know the person behind the blog. Of course, when you expose yourself to the world wide web and even in real life, you get to be more vulnerable; making anonymity useless. This is especially the case when you don’t want people to know the identity behind your blog for personal reasons like safety since your blog must be really controversial because of the content you put in (you talking trash about other people and those other people notice).

But if you just want to belong to a group since you’re still a noob and you want others to notice you as well as you get to relate with other bloggers, it’s good that you join a society or mingle with one. You get a number of tips to discuss best practices as well as share what you have that has worked.

Facebook, Yahoo! Groups, Twitter, Multiply, Friendster, to name a few. Social networking sites are very useful especially when you want to promote your site and let your friends or just other people know that your site exists. You can just put it on top of your ‘Updates’ or ‘Shout Outs’ to tell everyone what’s new in your blog and when you have good followers, it adds to the traffic.

So right now, I’m glad that I’m able to meet new people since I was able to join an event with a blogging community in this region. Getting to know them a little better behind their blogs makes the situation more personalized knowing that you get to interact with these real people. In turn, you get to share best practices and learn from each other. I hope to have more opportunities wherein I get to travel and NOT have to pay for it!

So start building that network!
